Welcome to Teacup Shorkie Puppies

My name is Stefanie Bailey I am the founder of the Shorkie breed and the Shorkie Club Of America and it is quite an honor and privilege to be able to educate people worldwide on the Shorkie breed

There appears to be quite a bit of BAD INFORMATION ONLINE about the term Teacup Shorkie and Shorkie puppies. There also seems to be no shortage of Shorkie breeders ready to take your hard earned money by selling you a poorly bred Shorkie by using the term TEACUP and or Toy sized puppies..

Many people contact me in search of a TEACUP size shorkie and hence it made me realize there needs to be a website that informs people about the Shorkie breed and the size and the standard that has been set forth by the Shorkie Club of America and the puppies it produces.

So here goes everyone allow me to introduce you to what a Teacup Shorkie really is all about

One of the most frequently asked questions that we get is "do you have any teacup Shorkie puppies for sale?" The simple truth is that no breeder anywhere has a "teacup" Shorkie puppy because no such classification exists.

Sound confusing?

Let me clarify.

The official breed standard for the Shorkie calls for adult Shorkies to have a weight between seven (7 to 12 ) pounds, when they are fully grown.
That does not mean that each and every puppy produced will end up in that size range. We have had ones that are smaller and ones that are larger as adults. The Shorkie breed is just now being developed and guaranteeing a size is just not possible. That is why the Shorkie Club of America is the only club in the world that is dedicated to the ethical development of the Shorkie breed and has guidelines that we adhere to so we can be sure we are breeding healthy happy Shorkie puppies/
Why then, you may ask, do so many breeders advertise their puppies as teacup Shorkie puppies for sale?

Fraudulent advertising for Teacup Shorkie puppies is the #1 reason. Advertising anything that says TEACUP is a huge money maker for that breeder.

Some unscrupulous breeders advertise teacup Shorkie puppies to take advantage of those people who are not very familiar with the Shorkie breed. By telling someone that they are getting a "teacup" Shorkie, they make the potential puppy parent feel that they are getting something special, something that is one of a kind – Beware most Shorkie puppies weights are 1 or 12 pounds. As stated above, in the Shorkie Club Of America Standard. You will also see these teacup puppies are priced outrageously high and this supports the idea you are paying more for something that is extremely rare when in fact you may be purchasing a genetic nightmare that will cost you thousands of dollars in vet bills and much heart ache over the years.

Sadly, there are people out there breeding Shorkie puppies who simply aren't knowledgeable enough about the Shorkie breed and are just throwing any Shih Tzu with any Yorkie and hoping for the best.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS FACT!!!! . The smallest dog in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, was a Chihuahua who weighed just under 2 pounds at 1 lb. 14 oz. For someone to claim that they regularly have adult Shorkie dogs weighing less than 2 pounds is a stretch to say the least.
One must also be cautious regarding the time at which a weight is taken. A breeder could happily tell you that a dog weighs only 4 pounds. If that weight is taken at 12 weeks of age, however, that Yorkie puppy will probably weigh about 8 pounds as a fully grown adult.

To some it all up on an average Shorkies as adults are 7 to 12 lbs full grown. Don’t let anyone fool you into thinking other wise. It is up to you as a buyer to do your research and find someone that is breeding to better the Shorkie breed.

It is the goal of the Shorkie Club of America to become a AKC recognized breed.
In order to do this you must breed many CORRECT generations of a breed. It take many many many years tobecome an AKC recognized breed. AKC needs to know what the breed standard should be and
what the breed should look like full grown and the size they should be. Until you start doing multiple
generations of them you never know what they will truly look like when they grow up, or the size
puppies will be. A breed club is there to define what the breed is or in this case IS NOT! the Shorkie Club of America will and has no plans on recognizing TEACUP SHORKIES as a breed size.
